BENGKUNG BELLY BINDING
"Bengkung" is the Malaysian word for "cummerbund" and refers to a specific binding technique performed postpartum during the confinement, or "lying in," period in traditional cultures. A long strip of cloth is used to wrap the abdomen snugly from the pelvis to the rib cage. This closes and warms the body, helps to center and focus the mind and provides support to the abdominal muscles (diastasis recti) as well as the back to aid with healing and body posture. Doula has been trained to bind in this way, and will bind client and teach client how to use the binding on their own for maximum benefit. Binding may be done during pregnancy, immediately after a vaginal birth, once a c-section incision has completely healed or at any point postpartum (if cleared for binding by healthcare provider). Includes a personal unbleached cotton muslin bind to keep (contact me for pricing if purchasing/making your own binding). This service is included at no extra charge for postpartum contracts of 12 hours or more.
Many parents-to-be are excited to begin shopping for their new arrival as soon as they see their positive pregnancy test. But walking into the baby boutique may inspire an immediate panic attack as all the options available compete for attention. A personal registry shopper can help you make sense of all the baby stuff and build a registry tailored to your family's unique style and situation.
When pregnancy becomes "high-risk," bed rest may be recommended or required. This can be extremely difficult for the modern mom on the move. Your doula can provide emotional support, assist with light household duties, meal preparation or planning, and assist caring for siblings-to-be. Basically, everything your postpartum doula can do after baby arrives, she can provide prenatally in the event that pregnancy becomes complicated. May also include information and assistance with birth plan preparation. Any remaining balance at the time of birth may be applied to Postpartum Doula services if desired.
